Christine frantically flies back in the Philippines to gather evidences that will convince his Australian father not to marry Georgia her estranged mother, who she thinks has abandoned them. Vinod (Master Raghu) and Anitha (Devi) are classmates in school and have their own private problems. Vinod's stepmother wants to seduce him, and Anitha is an illegitimate child that her mother never wanted. On a rainy day they take shelter in a train wagon, which starts moving before they could get out and stops next in a forest area a long way away from home. There, they find a couple of recluses - a widow and an ex-army officer - living their own lives and willing to accept them. As they were in early puberty they live like normal children. But as puberty stage starts, both experiences lust over each other. The widow accepts them as foster children and perform their marriage, but fate intervenes as an incurable disease for Anitha.

Zdeněk Zaoral began filming this film in semi-amateur conditions, but it was eventually completed in a Zlín studio and released in cinemas. At its time, in the second half of the 1980s, it was the first completely open and also unusually raw statement about the course and consequences of drug addiction. The story of an eighteen-year-old girl who tries to escape her habit shows documentary values ​​- both in the staging and in the speech of the individual characters, in the authenticity of the drug-addicted environment.

A story about family ghosts, wild pigs and the end of the world, which we all imagine differently. The drama Wilderness is an existential grotesque about building and breaking down family myths, love, memory and impermanence.
